Quaid's birthday is celebrated today |
Various activities are carried out in government and private
organizations to shed light on the lifelong political struggle of Quaids and
its guiding principles of unity, faith and discipline.
Mr. Jinnah was born in Karachi on December 25, 1876. The day is
a public holiday and the national flag is hoisted on major government buildings
across the country.
The day begins with special prayers for the security,
progress and prosperity of the country.
The Quran Khawani is held at Mazar-i-Quaid in Karachi, while
a changing of the guard ceremony is also taking place.
Large numbers of people from all walks of life are expected
to visit the mausoleum to pay tribute to Mr. Jinnah for his contributions to
creating a homeland for the subcontinent's Muslims.
To celebrate the day, the Pakistani National Council of the
Arts is organizing various cultural events. A painting exhibition, tableau and
speech contest are also organized to educate youth about Quaid's vision and ideology
of Pakistan.
An official from the Pakistan Academy of Letters said the Quaid-i-Azam
National Seminar is being organized to highlight the Quaid's efforts to rule
the law. The Nazriya Pakistan Council also arranged week-long programs to
celebrate the day.
Mr. Jinnah was a lawyer and a politician by profession. He served as
leader of the All-India Muslim League from 1913 until Pakistan's independence
on August 14, 1947, and then as the first Governor-General of Pakistan until
his death on September 11, 1948.
