textile cluster near Lahore |
Speaking to
journalists, Khalid Mansoor, special assistant to the prime minister of the
China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), who accompanied the prime minister on
his four-day visit to China, revealed that a consortium of three Chinese
companies would set up a metal and paper recycling park in Gwadar in two to
three years.
Similarly, a
Chinese textile company - known for its high-end, export-quality clothing - is
planning to build a textile cluster on 100 hectares of land on Lahore-Kasur
Road by investing US$350 million, which would also create around 20,000 jobs.
said Mansoor.
The prime
minister had clear communication with the staff of the National Development and
Reform Commission (NDRC), who assured him of their full support and commitment
to the successful implementation of the second phase of the CPEC while
maintaining high pace and high quality, he stressed.
The Prime
Minister was also assured that joint working groups in 10 different sectors
would provide technological and financial support for the realization of
projects, he added. Mansoor gave details of prime ministers' meetings with
Chinese firms, noting that three major agribusinesses are considering setting
up a research laboratory and a Chinese-style demonstration plot to improve crop
yields and seed quality in Pakistan.
Chinese
fertilizer companies also expressed their desire to invest in corn and soybean
growth, he said.
In addition, a
Chinese company took an interest in the dairy sector to promote the export of
milk and other dairy products.
Mansoor expressed
hope that after the prime ministers' visit, Pakistan could secure commitments
from major Fortune 500 companies in a variety of sectors.
